Role Summary
Join CYOS Solutions as a Java Software Engineer on a 12-month contract based in Canberra, ACT, supporting the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's (AMSA) critical NEXUS application. This application powers AMSA's Rescue Coordination Centre Australia (RCCA) in managing maritime and aviation search and rescue operations and pollution event responses. The role focuses on supporting, enhancing, and maintaining the NEXUS cloud infrastructure and backend components, which utilize Java, AWS, and Oracle technologies.
Work Environment and Contract Details
- Location: Australian Capital Territory, Australia.
- Working arrangement: hybrid options available, primarily onsite.
- Contract length: 12 months with potential for two 12-month extensions.
- Security clearance: candidates must be able to acquire Baseline clearance.
- Compensation: $110 to $130 per hour inclusive of superannuation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support enterprise-level software solutions using Java and Oracle technologies.
- Create and maintain web user interfaces using ReactJS, CSS, and HTML.
- Design and implement data models, translating logical to physical models in Oracle databases.
- Manage database CRUD operations through Java ORM frameworks such as JPA and Hibernate.
- Produce and update detailed design documentation and technical specifications.
- Develop RESTful APIs aligned with OpenAPI specs, and SOAP web services using WSDL and XML Schemas.
- Maintain DevOps processes utilizing Jenkins, Git, Maven, and Ant.
- Coordinate software releases following established protocols.
- Provide consulting and technical support to AMSA's Applications Director and CIO.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for critical support, rarely required (~once annually).
Key Skills and Experience
- Extensive Java development experience (minimum 8 years), including enterprise design patterns and frameworks like Spring and SpringBoot.
- Proficiency with Java EE JMS components, RESTful and SOAP web services, and reactive programming is beneficial.
- Expertise with Unix/Linux environments and Bash scripting.
- Experience with Maven lifecycle, continuous integration, and automated testing techniques.
- Strong background in database management, particularly Oracle, including data modeling and stored procedures.
- Hands-on AWS development experience (EC2, Lambdas, API Gateway, S3, SQS, CloudFormation).
- Willingness to be part of a 24/7 on-call support roster with minimal expected call-outs.
