Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Human Resources Manager to lead the planning, development, and execution of comprehensive HR strategies and services at our Maui-based scientific organization. This role acts as a strategic advisor to leadership and employees alike, driving initiatives that foster a thriving and high-performing workplace dedicated to scientific advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business leaders to align HR strategies with organizational goals and objectives.
- Offer expert advice to managers and staff on diverse HR matters.
- Implement HR improvement projects consistent with overall planning.
- Gather and analyze HR data to generate insights and communicate critical findings.
- Support recruitment through partnership with hiring managers, including job description reviews, workforce planning, and onboarding process facilitation.
- Attract and retain talented professionals to ensure organizational success.
- Assess and address employee and organizational development needs in collaboration with leadership and Learning & Development teams.
- Enhance employee engagement, morale, productivity, and retention by fostering positive workplace relationships.
- Advise on employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, performance management, and policy interpretation.
- Lead workplace assessments and investigations, recommending suitable resolutions consistent with company policies.
- Coach leaders on setting goals, delivering feedback, nurturing employee growth, and managing performance improvement.
- Oversee the performance review program to uphold fairness, compliance, and effectiveness.
- Work with Compensation partners to ensure competitive and equitable pay practices grounded in market data.
- Provide guidance on HR policies, assist with developing new policies, and maintain HR information systems.
- Stay current with federal, state, and local employment regulations to guarantee compliance and promote sound employment practices.
- Ensure adherence to organizational compliance with government contract terms and uphold expectations for nondiscrimination and workforce standards.
- Manage AURA property responsibly within assigned work areas.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; equivalent experience or training may be substituted.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in human resources or a related domain.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution capabilities.
- Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving strengths.
- High initiative, dependability, accuracy, and keen attention to detail.
- Capacity to act with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality, exercising sound judgment.
- Emotional intelligence and diplomatic conduct in challenging situations.
- Comprehensive understanding of employment laws and regulations including Affirmative Action, ADA, ADEA, EEO, COBRA, ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, IRCA, sexual harassment, unemployment, and workers' compensation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quick adaptability to HRIS and talent management software.
- Professional demeanor that enhances the organizational image.
- Preferred but not required: HR certifications such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR, experience with scientific/research or government-funded organizations, exposure to distributed teams, use of HR analytics, and conducting workplace investigations.
Salary
Salary ranges from $110,000 to $130,000 annually, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear.
- Occasionally must stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Must have close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Physical dexterity to handle office equipment and documents.
- Capable of understanding written and oral instructions clearly.
- Must be able to work at high elevations regularly, including summit sites between 6,800 and 14,000 feet.
