Job Overview

Become a vital part of the Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing’s Health & Safety Division by surveying, monitoring, and assessing healthcare and treatment facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Your role is crucial in identifying areas needing improvement to guarantee safe, high-quality care at licensed and certified establishments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site surveys, revisits, and investigations to verify adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Apply rules and regulations meticulously and fairly to uphold compliance standards.
• Coordinate and lead survey teams, communicating effectively with providers, administrators, and leadership.
• Present inspection outcomes during exit conferences and compile detailed, accurate reports.
• Maintain professional and impartial relationships with providers, witnesses, and other stakeholders.
• Support adverse action proceedings by documenting evidence, collaborating with legal counsel, and providing testimony when necessary.
• Continuously update knowledge on laws, policies, and best practices through training and development.

• Understanding of healthcare standards, contemporary care practices, and relevant state/federal regulations applicable to licensed facilities and laboratories.
• Ability to assess healthcare services critically and identify deficiencies using sound judgment.
• Strong communication, interviewing, and interpersonal skills to establish rapport and document findings clearly.
• Exhibits professionalism, ethical behavior, attention to detail, and the capability to work independently or collaboratively.

Qualifications

• Completion of a professional Nursing program and registered nurse status, or a Bachelor’s degree focused on human services areas with three years of full-time relevant work experience.
• OR a Pharmacy degree, a Master’s or advanced degree in human services with one year of full-time professional experience.
• OR Bachelor’s degree with three years of professional experience in health administration, clinical substance abuse programs, or regulatory roles involving health facility evaluations.
• OR certification as a rehabilitation counselor plus one year of relevant professional experience in nursing, treatment, or habilitation programs.
• OR an equivalent mix of education and experience substituting one year of experience for one year of education.
• Graduate coursework may substitute for experience up to two years.

Additional Requirements
