Role Overview
Pitson Transmission Technologies is hiring a hands-on Mechanical Engineering professional to assemble and test a range of gearboxes at its Surendranagar facility. The position focuses on precision assembly, functional testing, quality documentation, and ongoing process improvement.
Experience & Education
Applicants should ideally have 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in gearbox work, motors, automation, or machine assembly. Strong practical fresh mechanical engineers may also be evaluated. A Diploma, B.E., or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Assembly Responsibilities
- Build worm, helical, bevel, planetary, and custom gearbox units based on drawings and SOPs.
- Inspect all purchased and machined components before starting assembly.
- Check bearing preload, gear backlash, shaft end play, and alignment accurately.
- Use the correct lubricants and sealing materials for each build.
- Apply tightening torque with calibrated torque tools.
- Work in a clean, contamination-controlled assembly environment.
Testing Responsibilities
- Carry out both no-load and full-load gearbox trials.
- Measure performance indicators such as noise, vibration, temperature increase, input/output speed, torque, efficiency, oil leakage, and backlash.
- Compile test reports and maintain quality records.
- Investigate failures and recommend corrective measures.
Quality, Documentation & Coordination
- Adhere to assembly SOPs and quality checklists throughout the process.
- Maintain serial number tracking and traceability records.
- Generate NCRs when parts do not meet requirements.
- Assist with ISO-related documentation and audit preparation.
- Work with the Design and Quality teams to resolve technical issues.
Continuous Improvement
- Look for ways to cut assembly cycle time through smarter methods.
- Help improve First Pass Yield (FPY).
- Support 5S and Lean manufacturing practices.
- Recommend better fixtures and tooling where needed.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand GD&T.
- Working knowledge of fits, tolerances, bearings, oil seals, circlips, couplings, and fasteners.
- Comfort using precision measuring tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, and torque wrenches.
- Understanding of gearbox testing methods.
- Basic PLC and VFD knowledge is an added advantage.
- ERP familiarity will be considered a plus.
Preferred Domain Knowledge
- Understanding of gear geometry and backlash setting.
- Experience with bearing mounting methods.
- Exposure to servo, planetary, and worm gearboxes.
- Knowledge of failure analysis, RCA, and preventive maintenance.

Additional Information
This role is based in Surendranagar, India. The compensation is listed as INR 4,00,000 to 5,50,000 per year.
