About ATHR Gallery
Established in 2009 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, ATHR Gallery is a leading contemporary art institution focused on promoting Middle Eastern art internationally. The gallery acts as a cultural liaison between Saudi Arabia and the global art community, presenting artists across a broad range of mediums from classical painting and sculpture to modern experimental works. Its programming highlights diverse themes, encompassing personal stories and wider socio-cultural issues, mirroring the evolving regional art landscape. Beyond its primary Jeddah venue, ATHR has expanded to Al-Ula and Riyadh and created the ATHR Foundation to aid emerging artists and spaces, as well as AKTHR, a cultural project agency for Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region.
Role Overview
The Gallery Coordinator position is a full-time, on-site role based at the ATHR Gallery in Jeddah. The coordinator oversees daily gallery operations, organizing exhibition schedules, handling artwork logistics, and aiding in the setup and dismantling of exhibitions. This role provides support in communication with artists and clients, maintains documentation related to exhibitions, ensures the gallery remains attractive and inviting to visitors, and manages events such as openings, talks, and tours. Additionally, the coordinator monitors artwork inventory and cataloging, collaborating with the broader ATHR team to enhance programming and public engagement. The role is critical for maintaining efficient gallery processes and upholding ATHR’s operational standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in gallery operations, including management and administration specific to art galleries.
- Strong grounding in Art History and appreciation, particularly of contemporary Middle Eastern art.
- Hands-on experience in art handling techniques such as secure packing, installation, and preservation of artworks.
- Superior organizational and time management skills, emphasizing accuracy in documentation and inventory control.
- Proficient communication abilities in English, both verbal and written; knowledge of Arabic is an added benefit.
- Comfortable serving in a public-facing capacity, delivering knowledgeable, professional, and inclusive assistance to artists, visitors, and collaborators.
- Competence with standard office software; experience with gallery management software or collection databases is advantageous.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Cultural Management, or an equivalent field of study or work experience.
- Availability to work on-site in Jeddah, with occasional requirements for evening or weekend commitments to support exhibition events.
