About the Role
The Fundamental Research Group (FRG) Associate collaborates closely with investment teams to deepen and improve the quality of investment research. This role requires strong ownership, accountability, and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of stakeholders within the investment group. It emphasizes strong financial analysis, research aptitude, and proficiency with emerging technologies to contribute meaningfully and reliably to various research projects. The associate is expected to work independently, maintain accuracy and clarity in outputs, and deliver timely information that supports investment decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute detailed financial modeling, valuation, and analysis independently across diverse business cases.
- Serve as a dependable partner who enhances research effectiveness by leveraging technical proficiency with various data platforms.
- Incorporate relevant industry knowledge into analyses to contextualize investment research.
- Present research findings clearly and concisely, tailored for diverse audiences and aligned with research goals.

Required Skills
- Develop and apply data skills to enhance research impact, including leveraging AI and large language models (LLMs) to speed insight generation and automate repetitive tasks.
- Automate routine workflows such as financial modeling and data extraction.
- Build programming skills in Python and SQL for dynamic data integration.
- Integrate internal and external data sources within comprehensive workflows.
- Create dynamic visualizations of research results using tools like Power BI or Tableau.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated strong financial knowledge encompassing financial statements, accounting standards, valuation methods, and macroeconomic principles with direct application to investment research.
- High intellectual curiosity and adept analytical skills handling moderately complex financial market, industry, and emerging trend issues.
- Proficiency with standard investment research software such as Excel and market data platforms including AlphaSense, CapIQ, and FactSet.
- Effective communication abilities tailored to diverse associates and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and relevance of conveyed insights.
- Strong collaborative skills enabling successful relationship development to achieve business goals.
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- Experience of 2 to 5 years in research roles within financial services.
- Fluent in both written and spoken Chinese to meet research and operational demands.
