Role Overview

We are looking for a qualified Fitter/Welder to perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, and installations at the Snowy River processing plant and related facilities. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the fixed plant and associated equipment operate reliably and safely. As a hands-on member of a small, versatile maintenance team, you will be expected to take initiative, manage your workload effectively, and assist across various tasks within the plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure personal and team safety by adhering to health and safety regulations, reporting hazards, and maintaining a positive safety culture aligned with company values.
  • Follow New Zealand’s health, safety, and environmental legislation, as well as company policies and site safety management systems.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive and breakdown maintenance on fixed plant machinery, including crushers, conveyors, mills, pumps, flotation cells, and water infrastructure.
  • Fabricate and install components accurately according to technical drawings and standards.
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks compliant with relevant procedures and quality standards.
  • Inspect and test equipment performance before returning to operation to confirm safe and efficient functionality.
  • Collaborate with OEMs as needed for repairs and installations.
  • Work closely with maintenance and processing teams to meet plant availability goals and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete all maintenance work and documentation efficiently and accurately.
  • Assist other tradespeople and participate in ongoing skill development and training to maintain competencies.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a recognized mechanical trade qualification in fitting, mechanical work, welding, or fabrication.
  • Proven experience in maintaining fixed plant equipment, preferably within mining or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and team wellbeing.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work safely from technical drawings, procedures, and permits.
  • Self-driven with strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks effectively.

Employee Benefits

  • Competitive salary package.
  • Accommodation allowance provided.
  • Transportation available via work bus services from Reefton and Greymouth.
  • Private healthcare coverage included for all employees.
  • Opportunities for continuous training and professional growth.
  • A supportive, safety-centric work culture focused on employee wellbeing and assistance programs.
