About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Fabricator-Welder to join our Fabrications team based in Leeds on a day-shift schedule. This practical role involves repairing, maintaining, and refurbishing waste containers to ensure they meet high standards of safety, functionality, and appearance for customer use.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding, grinding, cutting, burning, and general fabrication tasks as directed by the Fabrications/Maintenance Manager.
- Repair and maintain waste containers to keep them fully operational, safe, and visually presentable.
- Upkeep machinery, tools, and equipment to high standards, reporting any defects without delay.
- Work collaboratively with the welding and fabrication team along with approved third-party contractors.
- Ensure work areas are free from hazards before beginning tasks and maintain excellent housekeeping throughout the fabrication yard.
- Assist with tasks in the maintenance workshop as necessary.
- Clean your work area at the end of each shift and adhere strictly to safe working practices.
- Complete and submit required documents such as log sheets, tool checks, inspection reports, and other paperwork accurately.
- Communicate professionally with customers, colleagues, and site personnel, representing the company positively.
Health and Safety
Safety is a core value. You must follow company health and safety policies, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhere to permit-to-work procedures aligned with HSE standards for hot works. Reporting hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents promptly to management is expected, as is participating in safety workshops.
Qualifications and Skills
- Hold NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fabrication & Welding or an equivalent qualification.
- Proven expertise in MIG welding; additional welding process skills beneficial.
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings accurately.
- Experience using grinders, cutting tools, and general fabrication equipment.
- Strong understanding of workshop health and safety practices.
- Excellent practical and mechanical abilities combined with a keen eye for detail and quality workmanship.
- Capability to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment.
- Effective problem-solving skills with a dependable and safety-oriented mindset.
- Possession of a full UK driving licence if operationally necessary.
Additional Desired Skills
- Welding qualifications such as BS EN ISO 9606-1 or equivalent codes/certifications.
- Certifications for working at height such as IPAF or PASMA.
- Forklift operation licenses including counterbalance or telehandler.
- Prior experience in waste management, recycling, manufacturing, or heavy engineering sectors.
- Training in Hot Works and Fire Safety awareness.
- First Aid at Work certification.
