Role Overview

The Communication Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC) at Scope is a nationally recognized leader in promoting accessibility and inclusion for those with communication disabilities or low literacy. For over two decades, CIRC has empowered such individuals by assisting communities and services to become more accessible and connected. The Digital Accessibility Lead role is a newly formed 12-month fixed-term position to enhance the quality and maturity of Scope's digital accessibility products and services, impacting both internal teams and external clients across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate applicable access and inclusion laws, standards, and guidelines into easily understandable documents for the Accessible Information team.
• Develop and implement an in-house content publishing workflow, including tagging processes.
• Enhance current accessible information products to comply with standards like WCAG 2.2 and PDF/UA.
• Provide ongoing role-specific training to ensure understanding and adherence to accessibility standards.
• Collaborate with clients to improve their digital accessibility maturity by devising tailored roadmaps and processes.
• Analyze customer design systems and branding for potential accessibility challenges.
• Simplify complex issues related to user experience and information architecture.
• Lead teams and contractors in conducting both automated and manual accessibility audits on digital products.
• Mentor and inspire team members to foster professional growth.

Experience & Skills Required

• Extensive knowledge of WCAG, PDF/UA, ISO 24495, and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
• Strong grasp of inclusive design, UX laws, usability heuristics, and user-centered design principles.
• Deep understanding of digital assistive technologies and how design decisions affect users.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with development teams to ensure technical accessibility requirements are implemented successfully.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and rapid organizational growth.
• Proven adaptability, resilience, and a growth mindset.
• Demonstrated strategic and operational expertise.
• Excellent collaboration, influence, and interpersonal skills capable of engaging with all organizational levels.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a history of developing practical solutions.

Additional Information
