Role Overview

KPMB seeks a Level 1 Designer with enthusiasm for architecture, drawing, and design quality to join our Cambridge, Massachusetts office. This position offers the chance to contribute to architectural solutions demonstrating design excellence, while benefiting from mentorship and exposure to seasoned senior colleagues. Responsibilities include supporting project teams with design concepts, drawings, presentation preparation, and assisting with technical documents under senior supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed technical drawings using Revit and 3D models in Rhino to convey design ideas and drive design development.
• Apply foundational knowledge of building technologies, assemblies, construction techniques, and material use to assist with project execution.
• Integrate building codes, zoning, and architectural standards into documentation with guidance from senior staff.
• Support design layouts by researching, analyzing spatial plans and occupancy data to align with project goals.
• Update and refine drawings using feedback, including redlines, on-site measurements, and existing conditions documentation.
• Adhere to BIM standards and practices.
• Participate actively in design discussions, offering ideas, accepting input, and engaging constructively with feedback to grow.
• Seek and respond to feedback proactively and review personal work regularly to identify growth areas.
• Collaborate in team meetings, share progress, and utilize internal resources effectively.
• Assist architects, engineers, and consultants in coordinating project efforts.
• Maintain organized, accurate project documentation and files for easy access.
• Translate project objectives into prioritized tasks and clearly understand one’s role in achieving project success.
• Monitor design decisions for constructability, code adherence, and coordination risks.
• Deliver work meeting quality standards and deadlines, upholding team accountability and reducing project risks.
• Stay current on industry trends and innovations, fostering continuous learning and technical skill advancement.
• Develop awareness of sustainable design principles and incorporate relevant environmental standards within projects and the firm.
• Participate in post-project evaluations to contribute to ongoing improvements.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

• Holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in architectural studies.
• Possesses up to two years of architectural design experience, including internships or cooperative placements.
• Proficient with current versions of Revit, BIM software, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and 3D visualization tools.
• Demonstrates foundational skills in producing working drawings and renderings.
• Understands building technology, assembly processes, construction methods, and material applications affecting functional design.
• Familiar with Massachusetts State Building Code (MSBC) and International Code Council (ICC) standards.
• Has actively engaged in firm or academic committees, team-building, and cultural activities.
• Maintains a portfolio illustrating meticulousness and attention to detail.
• Exhibits curiosity, resourcefulness, and self-awareness to seek guidance when needed.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience functioning both collaboratively in teams and independently.
• Effective task prioritization skills to manage competing deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
