Job description
Overview
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Database Administrator with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on expertise managing Oracle and SQL Server databases within a manufacturing setting. The primary objective is to ensure the optimal performance, security, and integrity of core enterprise databases that support operational environments including MES, ERP, and quality management systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support Oracle (preferably versions 12c/19c) and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Guarantee database uptime, reliability, and performance consistency in both production and development contexts.
- Conduct regular backup operations, database restorations, and administer disaster recovery protocols.
- Continuously monitor and enhance database performance using tools such as AWR reports, execution plan analysis, and effective indexing to ensure reduced latency for manufacturing applications.
- Facilitate data integration activities between manufacturing equipment, MES, ERP, QMS, and enterprise IT systems like SAP, PLM, SCADA.
- Maintain data security and accuracy by executing access controls and auditing mechanisms.
- Collaborate with application, data migration, and system upgrade teams to support schema modifications.
- Develop automation scripts and schedule jobs to streamline routine database administrative processes.
- Analyse root causes of database issues arising during production and implement corrective measures.
- Implement and oversee high availability solutions like RAC, AlwaysOn, clustering, and replication.
- Maintain thorough documentation on database architecture, operational procedures, and standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- At least 5 years of database administration experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong command of PL/SQL and T-SQL including stored procedures, triggers, and views.
- Familiarity with databases used specifically for manufacturing solutions such as MES, ERP, and QMS.
- Knowledgeable in data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Experience or exposure to GMP and ISO compliance in IT environments is advantageous.
- Understanding of cloud-based database services like AWS RDS or Azure SQL is preferable.
- Possession of certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator is a plus.
Technical Competencies
- In-depth understanding of Oracle Database architecture and associated tools like OEM, RMAN, Data Pump.
- Proficiency with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Expertise in backup and recovery strategies as well as query optimization and performance tuning.
- Ability to write and maintain scripts using Shell, PowerShell; Python scripting knowledge is a bonus.
- Hands-on experience in deploying high availability, clustering, and failover mechanisms.
- Awareness of manufacturing IT ecosystem and their database requirements.
Soft Skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong communication skills, with ability to document processes clearly.
- Efficiency in managing multiple priorities in high-pressure situations.
- Collaborative approach to liaise effectively with cross-functional teams including IT, production, and quality departments.
