About the Role
The Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) is looking for a dedicated full-time Data Analyst Administrator III to join their Data Office located in Baltimore, MD. This role contributes to improving the lives of over one million Marylanders by consolidating, organizing, analyzing, and presenting the department's performance metrics to inform strategic decisions. The position supports compliance with federal and state regulations concerning programs such as Social Service, Family Investment, and Child Support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop interactive dashboards and visual data representations utilizing Microsoft Power BI and other BI platforms like Tableau, Qlik Sense, Looker, or Zoho Analytics.
- Interpret complex datasets from multiple sources with statistical tools, including advanced Excel and Google Sheets techniques (VLOOKUPs, macros, pivot tables) to identify meaningful patterns.
- Coordinate extraction and gathering of data from diverse state systems and share key metrics with program partners to align with strategic objectives.
- Handle urgent data requests from DHS leadership and external stakeholders such as the Governor’s office, Maryland General Assembly, legislative auditors, and federal agencies.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Substitutions for experience include college credits, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree with specified experience adjustments. Military service may be considered as equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum six years of professional or administrative work experience is mandatory, including:
- At least one year of experience with SQL, Athena AWS, QLIK, or Quicksight.
- One year working with BI tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik Sense.
- Experience generating data reports and managing responses to leadership and government stakeholders.
- Proficiency in analyzing large datasets to detect trends and insights.
Licenses
May require a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license if duties involve operating a vehicle.
Benefits and Terms
This contractual position offers eligibility for subsidized health benefits if working 30 or more hours weekly, with the employee paying 25% of premiums and the state covering 75%. Optional dental, accidental death, and life insurance coverage is available at full employee cost. Leave accrual is at a rate of one hour per 30 worked, capped at 40 hours annually.
