Customer Delivery Driver - Maldon

Role Overview

As a Customer Delivery Driver for Tesco in Maldon, you will play a key part in providing excellent service, delivering groceries directly to customers' homes, and being the friendly face of Tesco on the road. This position involves more than driving — it requires hands-on physical work, organizational skills, and engaging positively with customers.

Working Hours and Availability

• Sunday: 9 PM to 11 PM
• Monday: 7 PM to 11 PM
• Friday: 9 AM to 7 PM
• Saturday: 8 AM to 6 PM

Shift schedules will be arranged within these windows, with a minimum guaranteed 16 hours weekly (a minimum of 12 hours is also possible upon request). You will receive three weeks' notice for your precise shift times. There is flexibility to accommodate slightly different availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the delivery van and trays are clean, tidy, and organized.
• Maintain cleanliness in the back yard area, including litter pickup.
• Support the tray washing process by cleaning trays as needed.
• Load the van appropriately and perform roadworthiness checks.
• Communicate with customers regarding any order changes, substitutions, or issues, offering refunds if necessary.
• Handle products and deliveries with care, as if they were your own.
• Inform customers that substitutions will not incur additional charges.
• Deliver orders within the customer's scheduled delivery window.
• Contact customers if arriving earlier than expected to coordinate delivery.
• Notify the store or distribution center if running 30 or more minutes late.

Candidate Requirements

• Hold a full UK, EU, or EEA driving license (manual or automatic) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
• Ability to comply with Great Britain domestic driving regulations.
• Capable of building positive relationships with colleagues to foster effective teamwork.
• Provide warm, friendly, and customer-focused interactions.
• Respond promptly and positively to customers' changing needs and workplace changes.
• Motivated to deliver superior service consistently while balancing work and personal life.
• Share ideas for improving store operations and customer experience with management.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting pay rate of £14.18 per hour, increasing to £15.45 per hour for stores within the M25 area; additional location-based payments may apply.
