Job description
Position Overview
The State of Vermont's Buildings and General Services (BGS) department is offering an entry-level full-time Custodian II role based in Waterbury Complex. The position involves maintaining cleanliness throughout the complex, collaborating within a diverse and team-driven environment. Scheduled work hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance tasks across state-owned or leased buildings in the Waterbury complex.
- Engage in floor maintenance activities such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction.
- Handle cleaning tasks that may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions as necessary.
- Occasionally fulfill overtime and evening shifts when required.
Candidate Requirements
- One year or more of custodial experience that includes floor upkeep such as stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning; or one year as BGS Custodian I.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for travel between work sites (for some positions).
- Successful clearance of relevant criminal background checks and investigations.
- Good physical condition able to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders as needed.
Additional Details
BGS is responsible for facility services to all state agencies. This role is part of the Operations and Maintenance Division, the largest division within BGS.
Starting salary may vary depending on education and experience.
New hires at this location are eligible for a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $1,000.
