Overview
This position, Custodial Worker III, involves leading and performing a variety of custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and safety within the facility. The role requires organizing, supervising, and executing cleaning processes both inside and outside the building, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prioritize routine, special, and emergency cleaning tasks to ensure timely completion; review daily event reports to align cleaning schedules with facility needs.
- Lead a team in conducting custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, restroom sanitation, supply replenishment, trash removal, ceiling and wall cleaning, window washing, carpet care, and other interior tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness of exterior areas surrounding the building such as walkways, railings, and entrances through sweeping, pressure washing, window cleaning, and use of power equipment.
- Perform heavy-duty cleaning such as stripping, sealing, waxing floors, including moving furniture as necessary.
- Uphold safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and ADA standards at all times.
- Coordinate workflow and quality checks; meet with supervisors and shift leads daily to address special cleaning demands and project continuity.
- Conduct facility inspections to assess cleanliness and condition; allocate or carry out special cleaning assignments as needed.
- Respond to work orders, building reports, and staff requests to prioritize tasks and ensure prompt issue resolution.
- Help coordinate and perform specialized cleaning during academic breaks or holidays.
- Enforce high-quality standards for custodial work, overseeing both in-house personnel and contracted services.
- Support inventory management of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment; report shortages to supervisors.
- Assist with employee recruitment and onboarding for the custodial team.
- Document and communicate staff concerns to supervisors for appropriate follow-up.
- Regularly inspect and maintain housekeeping equipment; update maintenance records and report issues promptly.
- Clean and organize tools and storage spaces as directed.
- Assist in training new team members on safe and proper cleaning methods, equipment use, and chemical handling.
- Operate industrial laundry machines to clean and fold linens as assigned.
- Occasionally set up or dismantle rooms for events, including moving furniture.
- Perform additional cleaning duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum education: Completion of ninth grade.
- At least two years of relevant experience in custodial or cleaning roles.
- Preferred: Experience in comprehensive building cleaning, including floors, walls, windows, restrooms, and food service areas.
- Familiarity with modern cleaning techniques, products, chemicals, and equipment operation.
- Knowledge of hazardous material handling and disposal.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with standard software applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
- Understanding and application of relevant policies, rules, and procedures.
- Capability to assign tasks and oversee work completion.
Additional Information
- Work schedule: 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm with rotating days off according to department needs.
- Hourly wage: $17.50 with additional shift differential for the second shift.
- Background check is mandatory.
