The Role

This opening is for a Custodial Worker 1 with the Department of General Services in the Harrisburg Regional Division. The position focuses on helping keep assigned spaces clean, safe, orderly, and ready for daily use. It is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in dependable, detail-focused facility care.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain restrooms by cleaning and sanitizing surfaces and fixtures, while keeping supplies replenished.
• Keep offices and rooms clean by dusting and washing furniture, equipment, windows, and other surfaces.
• Carry out floor care tasks such as sweeping, mopping, buffing, vacuuming, and other routine or detailed maintenance.
• Gather trash and recycling and move it to the proper collection points.
• Use cleaning equipment and machinery, and handle basic upkeep when needed.
• Clear snow, dirt, and debris from entrances, sidewalks, and nearby outdoor areas as required.

Work Schedule and Status

This is a full-time position. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, including a 60-minute lunch break. The role is considered essential, so you must be able to report to work during emergencies and when offices are officially closed. Telework is not available.
