Position Overview
The Cashier will manage all cash-related operations at the branch level, ensuring transactions comply with both internal policies and external banking regulations. This role involves precise record-keeping, end-of-day reconciliations, and collaboration with branch operations to maintain smooth cash handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently process cash transactions and maintain accounts accurately to support branch operations.
- Take charge of cash handling including receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, pay orders, and other withdrawal instruments within authorized limits, issuing proper acknowledgments.
- Disburse cash for withdrawals and accept cash deposits as per challans.
- Collect loan repayments according to EMI schedules and maintain corresponding system entries.
- Maintain various registers such as inward/outward, petty cash, and assets, and send necessary requisitions to the Regional Head Office.
- Perform daily reconciliation of cash against transaction records and prepare end-of-day branch reports.
- Jointly manage the branch vault operations and cash safety with the operations officer.
- Engage with customers to understand their needs, assist in cash transactions, and promote new products and services offered by the bank.
Customer Service and Operational Excellence
- Deliver courteous and efficient customer service to resolve queries and address grievances swiftly by escalating when necessary.
- Inform customers about repayment schedules and provide contact details for clarifications.
- Encourage customers to utilize alternative channels for deposits, withdrawals, and inquiries.
- Ensure cash counting and verification at start and end of day before securing cash in the vault.
- Maintain custody of branch cash, keys, and valuables jointly with the Assistant Branch Manager, ensuring smooth cash operations.
- Adhere to defined turnaround times for all transactions and comply with relevant banking regulations and policies.
- Authenticate customers during cash withdrawals and verify deposit slip accuracy as per audit standards.
- Update bank passbooks related to transactions and prepare cash bundles for currency chest deposits with proper documentation.
Learning and Development
- Stay updated on the bank's products, policies, and regulatory requirements including "Know Your Customer" norms.
- Participate in certification and mandatory training programs organized by the operations department.
- Engage in performance processes including goal setting, mid-year reviews, and appraisals within deadlines.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Any undergraduate degree is required, preferably in Finance or Commerce.
- 1 to 2 years of experience handling cash transactions in volume.
- Familiarity with financial modules or ERP systems for data entry.
- Experience in consolidating accounting information.
- Strong cash handling and accounting ability, with skill in detecting counterfeit currency.
- Detail-oriented, with an emphasis on timeliness and customer service quality.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn relevant software through on-job training.
- Strong numerical aptitude and multitasking skills.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and listening skills with a customer-focused attitude.

- Internal collaboration with regional operations, FCU officers, and service quality executives.
- External coordination with neighboring banks, cash management agencies, and business correspondent agents.
