About Us
Te Au Rere a Te Tonga - Youth Justice Residence in Palmerston North provides a secure and supportive setting for young people aged 13 to 17 who have offended and are awaiting court or serving sentences. This environment prioritizes safety and is distinct from a prison, focusing on helping rangatahi (youth) improve their future outlooks through positive change.
Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children centers tamariki and rangatahi in all its work, upholding values such as putting tamariki first, embodying aroha, respecting mana, practicing tika and pono, valuing whakapapa, and recognizing Oranga as a journey. Role Overview
The Residential Case Leader position involves developing and implementing intervention plans that address criminogenic, behavioral, addiction, physical, and mental health needs of tamariki and rangatahi. The role supports a successful transition from residential care to employment, education, or a stable external environment.
Work hours are Monday to Friday with flexibility to accommodate caseload demands, ensuring 24/7 support via multi-disciplinary team coordination. The role includes designing and leading clinical and therapeutic interventions, utilizing expertise in clinical practice and behavioral therapies to foster positive youth outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee intervention programmes for youth in residential care addressing diverse needs.
- Lead multi-agency teams to deliver comprehensive support around the clock.
- Design and deliver clinical and therapeutic program components.
- Produce assessments and court reports pertinent to individual cases.
Candidate Profile
- Must hold valid New Zealand work rights.
- Undergraduate degree in psychology, education, social work, or mental health nursing is essential.
- Experience practicing trauma-informed care, particularly with young people.
- Knowledge of Risks Need Responsivity (RNR) models and application in care planning.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multi-agency environments.
- Competency in clinical practice and adolescent behavioral models.
- Cultural responsiveness with understanding of tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures.
- Holder of a full, clean New Zealand driver’s license.
