BMS Controls Engineer

About the Role

Join Christchurch International Airport Limited as a BMS Controls Engineer and play a pivotal role in maintaining critical infrastructure that supports thousands of daily passengers, airlines, and businesses. This position offers a unique chance to manage the Building Management System and related control technologies that ensure the terminal operates safely, efficiently, and sustainably. You will be part of the Terminal Facilities team, contributing both through office-based engineering and hands-on fieldwork across the airport.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and enhance the performance of the Terminal's Building Management System (Siemens Desigo CC).
• Monitor HVAC systems to optimize energy efficiency and performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to controls and automation.
• Support routine maintenance schedules and respond to operational emergencies.
• Collaborate effectively with contractors, consultants, and service providers.
• Lead small to medium-sized capital projects for system improvements.
• Commission new systems and upgrades to existing plant equipment.
• Maintain detailed documentation and system graphics.
• Facilitate integration across building systems, including HVAC, mechanical plants, fire safety, energy monitoring, and smart building technologies.
• Identify and implement opportunities to increase system reliability, resilience, and sustainability.

Candidate Profile

• Hands-on experience with commercial Building Management Systems.
• Solid understanding of HVAC controls and automation.
• Skilled in commissioning and diagnosing faults within control systems.
• Knowledgeable about communication protocols such as BACnet and Modbus.
• Experience working with PLCs, DDC controllers, or equivalent automation platforms.
• Educational background in electrical, controls, or automation engineering.
• Proven ability to work in complex commercial, industrial, or critical infrastructure settings.
• Excellent communication skills to foster strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.
• A proactive, continuous improvement mindset with interest in new technologies.

Familiarity with Siemens Desigo CC is a plus, with training available for candidates showing the right aptitude.
