Job Description

As a Backend Software Developer at PowerPay, you will contribute to expanding and refining the company's loan origination and servicing platforms. The role involves close collaboration with the engineering team while also requiring the ability to operate independently and influence project direction.

Work Schedule and Location

This role is based in Wayne, PA, with a hybrid work schedule: working from home on Mondays and Fridays, with in-office presence Tuesday through Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

• Work alongside cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement backend solutions.
• Develop and maintain APIs, RSpec testing suites, and middleware facilitating data exchanges across systems.
• Conduct system analyses, perform troubleshooting and debugging to resolve integration challenges.
• Ensure system security and adherence to data privacy regulations throughout integration tasks.
• Optimize application performance to enhance user experience.
• Design maintainable database schemas and clear data structures.
• Independently devise technical solutions with minimal supervision.
• Participate actively in team processes including planning, backlog management, and sprint reviews for effective collaboration.
• Work in partnership with product managers and designers to translate business requirements into technical deliverables.
• Proactively recognize and address technical issues and potential bottlenecks.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Ruby (Ruby on Rails), Python, or Node.js.
• Experience with protocols and technologies including SFTP/FTP, File, OAuth2, OIDC, TLS, SSH.
• Knowledge of databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB.
• Understanding of caching mechanisms.
• Familiarity with RSpec testing framework.
• Expertise in RESTful API design and integration; experience with Postman is advantageous.
• Self-driven with the ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment.
• Comfort with Linux-based operating systems and containerization tools such as Docker.
• Strong communication skills capable of explaining complex technical problems and solutions.

Preferred Skills

• Experience developing with ReactJS frontend framework.
• Familiarity with performance monitoring tools like NewRelic.
• Exposure to AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Understanding of continuous integration and deployment pipelines (CI/CD).
• Previous experience in the fintech industry or startup environment is a plus.
