Associate/Analyst - Equity Research

Role Overview

This position within Manulife's Singapore Equities Investment Team focuses on conducting comprehensive research and analysis of stocks and sectors primarily within the Singapore market. The role involves both quantitative and qualitative assessment of companies' fundamentals and requires building earnings models to support informed investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Uphold a deep understanding of the investment philosophies and procedures specific to Manulife’s Singapore Investment Centre as well as the broader Manulife Investment Management framework, ensuring full compliance throughout the investment process.
• Develop and maintain robust investment skills, including advanced knowledge of investment theory, quantitative techniques, qualitative company analysis, security valuation through financial statements and discounted cash flow models, incorporating ESG considerations.
• Conduct macroeconomic and political analyses relevant to assigned countries, evaluating their impact on markets, sectors, and stock valuations.
• Proactively initiate detailed equity research on the Singapore market, encompassing sector and company studies that culminate in clear investment theses and stock recommendations.
• Plan and undertake field visits within assigned markets, drafting high-quality research reports aligned with the firm's investment framework and timelines.
• Generate concise summary reports following meetings and conference calls to keep the team informed.
• Deliver timely stock ideas to facilitate portfolio inclusion and aim for consistent alpha generation.
• Monitor market and stock developments vigilantly to guide buy/sell decisions that enhance portfolio value.
• Demonstrate independent research capabilities and effectively identify promising sectors or stocks.

Qualifications and Experience

• 1 to 3 years of relevant industry experience, preferably within equities research and the Singapore market.
• Financial modeling proficiency and familiarity with financial information systems such as Bloomberg are advantageous.
• Educational background in finance or accounting is preferred.
