Role Overview
As an Area Manager reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you will proactively address any obstacles preventing peak performance within your assigned area. You will oversee inventory management of essential spare parts and tools, anticipating needs to avoid disruptions in production. Utilizing critical thinking, you will identify and execute improvement initiatives aimed at boosting production efficiency and reducing costs. Additionally, you will lead your team by providing necessary training and development to ensure safe, effective job performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe workplace for all employees under your supervision.
- Achieve established process and product quality standards.
- Meet or exceed production volume targets.
- Create and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) where needed.
- Provide ongoing training and development for your team members.
- Maintain a comprehensive maintenance program for the area’s equipment.
- Manage tooling resources and control associated costs.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts to optimize operations.
- Handle staffing requirements within your area.
- Manage and adhere to the assigned budget for your area.
Qualifications and Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent relevant experience is required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in the wood industry is preferred.
- At least 2 years of leadership experience is desirable.
- Working familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical motors, pumps, fans, blowers, and conveyor systems is necessary.
- Proficiency in performing root cause analysis (RCA) to resolve operational issues.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and process improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and related applications.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures, including above 100°F and below 32°F.
- Capacity to operate in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial setting.
- Commitment to strict compliance with safety policies, including the use of required safety gear.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and pulling for shifts up to twelve hours.
- Ability to work safely around moving equipment and machinery.
- Physical capability to pull and lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to fulfill essential job functions in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and applicable standards, including productivity expectations.
