Role Overview

eir business is looking to hire an Akamai App & API Protection Engineer to join a team of network and security infrastructure experts providing managed services to a sizable Irish enterprise client. This is a long-term embedded support position focused on the implementation, configuration, and continuous enhancement of the Akamai App & API Protector platform. The role involves close collaboration with internal security and application teams.

Key Responsibilities

Manage daily configuration, tuning, and operation of Akamai App & API Protector.
Review and adjust security policies tailored for web applications and APIs.
Monitor and respond to security alerts and events, assisting with incident investigations under supervision.
Coordinate with internal teams to resolve WAF-related issues and fulfill change requests.
Identify opportunities to improve rule tuning, expand coverage, and enhance visibility.
Document rule sets, policy modifications, and operational procedures.
Collaborate with Akamai and stakeholders to enable secure rollouts of protected applications.
Engage actively in ongoing learning to deepen mastery of the Akamai platform.
Prepare and present security reports, covering operational status, threat intelligence, compliance, risks, and remediation strategies.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Exposure to Akamai services such as Kona Site Defender, Edge DNS, or related technologies is advantageous.
Experience supporting CDN, Web Application Firewall (WAF), or API gateway technologies.
Familiarity with security event logging, alerting, and monitoring tools.
Prior experience supporting enterprise-grade web applications or public APIs.
In-depth knowledge of web protocols and technologies including HTTP/S, APIs, DNS, and TLS.
Understanding of common web application security risks, including OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities.
Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technical tools and frameworks promptly.
Proficiency in automation and scripting languages such as Python.

Working Conditions

The role involves ongoing support responsibilities without a fixed term.
Embedded within internal security and application support teams.
Collaboration with Akamai as a strategic partner, complementing existing Premium DDoS support.
