Job description

About Wave

Our mission is to make Africa the first cashless continent. In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa lacked bank accounts due to high fees, distant branches, and limited card acceptance. Many people kept savings at home, small businesses endured loan sharks, and parents waited hours to pay school fees in cash. Wave is solving these issues by offering financial services that are free of account fees, instantly accessible, and widely accepted—even in areas with unreliable infrastructure. Since launching our mobile app in Senegal in 2017 for deposits, withdrawals, and payments, we've expanded to millions of users across nine countries and continue to grow.

Role Overview

The User Growth Regional Lead will be pivotal in expanding Wave's presence on the ground within Sierra Leone. This role involves leading and motivating distribution activities to grow and retain our user base, driving active engagement in money transfers and bill payments. You will develop and implement strategies to ensure Wave becomes the preferred wallet for users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee supervisors and team leads who manage field distributors responsible for recruiting new users for financial products.
  • Identify obstacles hindering user growth and devise solutions to maintain active product usage in assigned regions.
  • Formulate strategies to improve retention of recently acquired users.
  • Recruit, train, and manage distribution team members while establishing scalable systems to support distribution expansion.
  • Create and execute quarterly roadmaps for the distribution team aligned with key objectives to grow the customer base in Sierra Leone.
  • Utilize data analytics to guide distribution tactics and assess team performance.
  • Collaborate with agency teams to synchronize objectives and operationalize strategies effectively.
  • Contribute insights from team experience to refine Wave's overall distribution strategy.
  • Demonstrate Wave’s core values and embed them deeply within your team culture.

Location and Terms

  • Position based in Sierra Leone with willingness to relocate to other regions if required.
  • Valid work authorization in Sierra Leone is mandatory.
  • Permanent employment with competitive salaries determined through a transparent formula.
  • Comprehensive health insurance for employees and their dependents.
  • Support for working parents through 26 weeks of maternity leave and 4 weeks of paternity leave, plus subsidized child care upon return.
  • Reimbursement for airtime expenses.
  • Benefits include free meals and access to an attractive office environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Fluent communication skills in English, Krio, and at least one additional local language.
  • Prior experience in sales, business development, or team management roles.
  • A minimum of 4 years managing field or user acquisition teams.
  • At least 2 years designing user acquisition strategies in telecom, payment services, FMCG, or financial institutions.
  • Proven ability managing large teams of 50 or more individuals.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Successful track record in customer acquisition for mobile, financial, or FMCG products.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, valuing overcommunication.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
  • Proactive self-starter focused on meeting ambitious targets.
