About the Team
The Open Space Maintenance team is tasked with upkeeping parks and recreational facilities to high standards, ensuring they meet service level agreements through collaboration with Asset Custodians via Partnering Agreements. Their duties encompass planning and carrying out maintenance for streetscapes, parklands, sports fields, and roadsides, alongside providing expert advice on construction and maintenance of park infrastructure and open spaces.
Role Overview
This position seeks a dedicated and dependable Tree Maintenance Worker to join the arboriculture team. The role is field-based and centers on nurturing and caring for newly planted and young trees, contributing significantly toward sustaining attractive, healthy, and safe urban green spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Regular watering of juvenile and newly planted trees.
- Applying mulch and managing weed growth around tree bases.
- Monitoring tree health and identifying necessary maintenance actions.
- Pruning of young trees to encourage robust structure and healthy development.
- Setting up and maintaining tree supports such as stakes, ties, and guards.
- Applying fertilizers and soil conditioners as needed.
- Documenting completed tasks using digital devices or work management software.
- Operating and maintaining hand tools and small machinery safely.
- Adherence to all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Providing courteous and professional service when engaging with the public.
Candidate Requirements
- Certificate II in Horticulture, Conservation & Landcare Management, Arboriculture, or a related field; alternatively, at least one year of relevant industry experience.
- Mandatory possession of an MR Class Driver’s Licence (Unrestricted).
- Holding a General Construction Induction White Card (mandatory).
- Demonstrates a positive attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Capable of working independently and cooperatively within a team environment while prioritizing safety.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors under various weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and effective time management.
- Committed to delivering high-quality, detail-oriented work and maintaining public assets with pride.
Additional Information
- Employment type: Full time with a 9-day fortnight schedule totaling 36 hours.
- Salary range: $2,491.72 to $2,725.44 per fortnight, excluding allowances and superannuation.
- Successful candidates will be appointed between Level 2 and Level 7 based on qualifications, skills, and experience, according to the Queensland Local Government Industry Award.
