Job description
Job Location and Hours
This position is based in the West Auckland area, covering locales such as Mount Eden, New Lynn, Henderson, and Massey. The role requires full-time commitment, averaging 65 hours over each fortnight, including sleepover shifts.
Applicants must have flexible availability to accommodate a variety of scheduled shifts, encompassing mornings, evenings, overnight sleepovers, and regular weekends.
Role Overview
As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives both at home and in their communities. This role encourages creativity to make daily activities meaningful and engaging for those supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance independence by assisting individuals with daily living skills such as using public transport and meal preparation.
- Provide support with personal care activities including showering, dressing, and medication management.
- Encourage and facilitate participation in personal interests, hobbies, and goal pursuits.
- Promote health and wellbeing by supporting healthy lifestyle choices tailored to each individual.
- Offer calm and consistent backing for managing complex or challenging behaviours while maintaining dignity, safety, and respect.
- Foster strong connections by supporting relationships with family (whānau), colleagues, and the broader community.
Candidate Profile
- Previous experience in the health and disability sector is advantageous; however, candidates with a sincere interest in building a career as a Support Worker and a positive, proactive mindset are encouraged to apply.
- Must be available to work varied rostered shifts including mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends.
- Comfortable and confident in supporting individuals exhibiting complex or challenging behaviours, utilizing respectful and positive methods (training is provided).
- Proficient in using computers and tablets for daily documentation and communication purposes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills enabling positive relationship building.
- Physically capable to perform hands-on assistance when necessary.
- Possess a full New Zealand driver's license.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly pay ranging from $24.68 to $30.13 dependent on qualifications, with potential for salary growth as additional qualifications are attained.
