About the Role
FortisAlberta is seeking a strategic and collaborative individual to lead the province-wide inventory and materials management activities. This role is crucial to guarantee the availability of essential materials promptly, supporting dependable service for customers while optimizing inventory investment and reinforcing supply chain resilience.
You will lead a team of inventory experts and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across departments such as Operations, Engineering, Finance, Warehousing, and Procurement to promote continuous enhancements, improve data accuracy, and drive modernization efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide, develop, and mentor the Inventory Management team through coaching and performance oversight to nurture a motivated and efficient workforce.
- Create and execute inventory strategies that align operational readiness, service quality, working capital considerations, and overall cost management.
- Lead projects to optimize inventory including management of critical spares, reducing surplus stock, implementing recovery programs, and refining stocking policies.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant inventory governance protocols, internal controls, accounting standards, corporate policies, and safety guidelines.
- Track inventory performance, material availability, supply risks, and market trends proactively to mitigate potential operational disruptions.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders from Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, Warehousing, Finance, and Procurement to synchronize inventory processes with business needs.
- Maintain the integrity of inventory data, reporting, analytics, and performance indicators to enable informed decision-making and foster ongoing improvements.
- Support supply chain robustness and disaster preparedness by crafting inventory continuity strategies and addressing supply vulnerabilities.
- Drive process reforms and modernization projects, including assisting with enterprise resource planning (ERP) system transformations and advancements in materials management.
- Work alongside suppliers and procurement teams to facilitate sourcing activities, monitor supplier performance, and ensure sustainable material availability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree, diploma, or certification in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Engineering, or a related area accompanied by a minimum of seven years’ experience in inventory management, supply chain, procurement, warehousing, logistics, utility operations, or similar sectors.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and inventory processes, with a preference for SAP experience, including skills in materials planning, supply operations, inventory optimization, working capital management, and supply chain resiliency.
- Proven ability to lead cross-departmental projects and spearhead process improvements within complex operational settings.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities with aptitude for interpreting complex datasets, identifying trends, and facilitating data-supported decisions.
- Strong leadership and relationship-building skills, with supervisory experience regarded as a benefit.
- Excellent communication and change management skills capable of influencing stakeholder outcomes, delivering presentations to various audiences, and supporting business transformation efforts.
- Professional credentials such as Supply Chain Management Professional or certifications from the National Institute of Supply Chain Leaders are advantageous.
Additional Information
- This is a permanent, full-time position based in Airdrie, Alberta.
- The working schedule is Monday through Friday.
- This is a hybrid role allowing for two days per week of remote work from home.
- Occasional travel up to approximately 10% may be required.
