About the Role
The Baltimore Orioles are looking to hire a Sports Science Associate for their 2026 season based in Sarasota, FL. This role exists within the Player Development department, specifically under Strength and Performance. The associate will support the delivery of sports science initiatives and collaborate with various specialists, including the Major League Performance Analyst, Biomechanist, Sports Scientist, and Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. The primary goal is to optimize the use of existing technologies and data to enhance elite athlete program design and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and sustain current sports science initiatives throughout the organization, involving data gathering, analysis, and reporting.
- Set up, calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot technologies used by the Strength and Performance team such as VALD systems, GymAware, and Catapult.
- Conduct performance assessments and tests accurately while ensuring data integrity.
- Manage, organize, and integrate data into the organization's athlete management systems and databases.
- Assist in reporting data that supports comprehensive training programs.
- Contribute to sports science research projects utilizing biomechanical, sports science, and in-game data as tasked.
- Collaborate closely with the Strength and Performance staff to communicate findings from sports science projects.
- Document all research and communications thoroughly to ensure reproducibility.
- Support data collection efforts within the Amateur Scouting Department, including event planning, warm-ups, assessments, and reporting during scouting events.
- Coordinate scheduling for motion capture sessions involving staff such as pitching, hitting, strength & conditioning, and medical personnel.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, sports science, kinesiology, biomechanics, or related field.
- Familiarity with technologies like force plates, Catapult systems, and velocity-based training.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
- Experience with athlete management systems.
- Strong skills in communication and presentation, including graphical, written, and verbal formats.
- A motivated team player eager to collaborate with the Sports Performance department and help establish an organized system.
- Outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.
- Interest in working within a baseball environment.
- Flexibility to work extended hours or holidays as required.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, sports science, kinesiology, biomechanics, or a related discipline.
- Certified Performance and Sports Scientist (CPSS) credential from NSCA.
- Bilingual abilities.
- Experience with motion capture technology, high-speed video analysis, and Trackman systems.
- Background in applied sports science or strength & conditioning roles within elite sports contexts such as collegiate, professional, or private sectors.
- Proficiency in data science tools like R, Python, and SQL.
- Data science analytical skills.
