Role Summary
This position supports the Store Manager by overseeing daily operations to ensure seamless functionality of the Thrift Store at 1185 Mountain Road, Moncton, NB. When not fulfilling supervisory tasks, the individual performs sales associate duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers and donors in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Ensure the integrity and proper handling of all donated merchandise.
- Accurately manage all customer transactions including cash and debit sales.
- Help meet store financial goals by maintaining high customer service standards.
- Perform store opening and closing tasks per established procedures when necessary.
- Handle raw materials through receiving, sorting, packing, pricing, and storing donations.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of store inventory to assist customer inquiries.
- Monitor store security and observe activities within the premises.
- Safely and orderly manage merchandise, including stock rotation.
- Support inventory control by receiving, sorting, and pricing items as directed.
- Contribute to store layout and attractive displays, including window presentations and merchandise arrangement.
- Restock and replenish inventory based on supervisory instructions.
- Remove items from the sales floor when directed.
- Ensure donated goods are processed correctly and comply with quality standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store through tidying, restocking, sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
- Follow all store policies and procedures consistently.
- Assist with inventory reconciliation tasks like cycle counting.
- Deliver excellent customer and donor service experiences.
- Act as Team Lead or Working Supervisor in the Store Manager's absence.
- Provide on-the-job training and demonstrate store operations to staff as needed.
- Comply with Health & Safety regulations to promote a safe workplace.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Internal and External Relationships
Maintain collaboration with NRO Administration, The Salvation Army management and staff internally; engage with donors, clients, and contractors externally.
Supervision and Reporting
Directly reports to the Store Manager with no direct reports. May instruct others on certain procedures.
Financial & Material Responsibility
- Manage moderate material responsibilities and occasional petty cash transactions.
- Perform tasks in a professional manner reflecting The Salvation Army's mission and code of conduct.
Working Conditions
- Permanent full-time position in a typical retail store environment.
- Physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 30 pounds unassisted, stretching, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking frequently.
- Exposure to fumes, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Adherence to deadlines and ability to handle interpersonal conflicts with customers, donors, vendors, and employees is required.
- Work involves a mix of repetitive and varied tasks.
- Safety shoes are mandatory at all times in store and donation receiving center locations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of some high school education.
- Minimum two years' experience in store or warehouse operations.
- Willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army's mission and values appropriate to this role.
- Compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities with teamwork orientation.
- Physical capability to safely lift, carry, push, pull, and manipulate product up to 30 lbs frequently without assistance.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to successfully complete required screenings and background checks.
Compensation
Salary range: $15.91 to $19.89 hourly, with a maximum up to $23.86, adjusted based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications.
