Senior Technician

Position Overview

Midlands State University invites applications for the position of Senior Technician within the Faculty of Science and Technology. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Gweru, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe, focused on supporting the Department of Computer Science through comprehensive ICT services and laboratory management.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• A National Diploma in Computer Studies or comparable qualification in a related field is essential.
• A BSc Honours Degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering or a related discipline is also required.
• Applicants with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience after qualification will be given preference.

Core Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and management of computer laboratories and ICT equipment.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and network systems.
• Deliver technical assistance to academic staff and students during teaching sessions, research activities, and examinations.
• Maintain servers, operating systems, databases, and implement cybersecurity protocols.
• Guarantee the operational availability, security, and functionality of laboratory resources.
• Assist with procurement, inventory control, and upkeep of ICT assets.
• Supervise and provide mentorship to technical team members including laboratory assistants.
• Create and update technical documentation and asset maintenance records.
• Ensure adherence to institutional health, safety, and ICT policy standards.
• Support Departmental research, innovative projects, and digital transformation efforts.
• Coordinate with the University ICT Department and external vendors for technical support and solutions.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and suggest enhancements to ICT infrastructure and services.
