Job description
Job Overview
Join SIGMA as a Senior Technical Architect based in the Riyadh Region, specializing in leading the architecture design for enterprise and mega-scale IoT software projects. This role requires overseeing end-to-end solution architecture, integrating on-premise and cloud environments, and mentoring teams for successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the comprehensive design of large-scale enterprise and mega-project architectures, defining core architectures, data flows, integration patterns, and interfaces across distributed systems in both on-premise and cloud infrastructures.
- Collaborate with Architecture Committee members and stakeholders to define project scope and high-level requirements.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the software solution/product, adapting it to various business scenarios to assist implementers, customers, and the architecture team.
- Provide technical consultancy on product architecture, capabilities, and limitations to product owners and implementation teams.
- Supervise technical research related to IoT software solutions/products.
- Serve as the primary technical contact linking product management, implementers, architecture team, business, and development teams to facilitate feedback resolution and issue management.
- Create detailed end-to-end designs of software solutions/products in alignment with specific business needs, particularly focusing on smart IoT products.
- Resolve high-level functional software issues and define architecture and design standards, ensuring adherence from high-level design (HLD) through low-level design (LLD).
- Design subsystems and component interfaces, integration specifications, and establish architecture patterns focused on AI-native capabilities, APIs, event-driven services, observability, resiliency, and enterprise-grade performance.
- Maintain technical decision records, architecture guidelines, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency across mega-project deliverables.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical challenges including latency, bandwidth, scalability, and data integrity issues before impacting production.
- Scale connectivity solutions to support large deployments exceeding 100,000 units or endpoints, ensuring system availability, reliability, and business continuity.
- Oversee the technical roadmap for software products, guaranteeing it remains current.
- Mentor development teams to uphold architecture and design standards and promote reuse of organizational components.
- Continuously assess and recommend improvements for system reliability, scalability, extensibility, security, and performance.
- Lead design and development of secure, scalable IoT architectures covering edge devices, connectivity protocols, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise integrations.
- Analyze Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) to estimate efforts accurately and conduct feasibility studies aligning with business goals and delivery timelines.
- Provide on-site technical leadership, conduct workshops, and ensure successful delivery and knowledge transfer at client locations for major projects.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; Master’s degree is advantageous.
- A minimum of 12 years experience in software development and enterprise architecture with at least 5 years in a lead or principal architect role on large-scale or mega projects.
- Documented success delivering complex, multi-year software programs.
- Expertise in designing microservice and cloud-native enterprise solutions at scale.
- Extensive knowledge of microservices, distributed systems, and real-time or near-real-time processing architectures.
- Strong foundation in object-oriented design and programming.
- Deep understanding of business and system architecture principles, patterns, and frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman.
- Solid grasp of design patterns and enterprise integration patterns (EIP).
- Experienced in application, solution, and enterprise architecture disciplines.
- Proficient in API management, gateway patterns, governance, and security protocols including OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, and SAML.
- In-depth knowledge of IoT architecture components including edge devices, gateways, sensors, and connectivity protocols like MQTT, AMQP, CoAP, OPC-UA, and Modbus.
- Experience scaling IoT solutions for support exceeding 100,000 endpoints or locations.
- Skilled in software documentation tools such as UML and draw.io.
- Familiar with Agile SDLC methodologies; SAFe methodology experience is a plus.
- Expertise in mobile and IoT backend system design.
- Proficient in database modeling for both SQL and NoSQL systems, including PostgreSQL, Cassandra, InfluxDB, and Couchbase.
- Knowledge of data serialization formats such as XML, JSON, FlatBuffer, and Protocol Buffers.
- Practical experience with Java, Python, Go, Kafka, API gateways, Apache Flink, streaming frameworks, and cloud-native services.
- Competent with containerization technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and service mesh frameworks.
- Hands-on with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Experience designing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, and Terraform with DevSecOps methodologies.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools including ELK Stack, Grafana, Prometheus, and Datadog.
- Knowledge of AI/ML integration, edge computing, and data streaming is beneficial.
- Preferred certifications: TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture and cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, GCP Professional Cloud Architect).
- Preferred background in delivering mega-projects in IoT, smart cities, telecommunications, energy, transportation, or government sectors.
- Strong critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to executives and diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated organizational leadership and ability to mentor cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strategic mindset balancing long-term architecture vision with immediate delivery requirements.
