Role Overview

We are recruiting a Senior Project Manager for IT Infrastructure Service Projects located in Munich or Bonn (hiring one for each location). This full-time role includes approximately 40% remote work and operates within the defence sector. The position belongs to a project management center of excellence that supports multiple business and technical units by providing expertise, standards, and hands-on assistance in project management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate complex IT infrastructure projects covering decentralized and centralized environments from concept through commissioning and operational handover.
• Convert customer needs into effective IT processes, services, and technical solutions.
• Offer expert guidance throughout the planning and implementation stages of IT solutions.
• Identify and manage dependencies, changes, risks within the program and project plans.
• Oversee project teams as well as external suppliers and service providers.
• Address conflicts related to project objectives, stakeholder interests, priorities, and delivery limits.
• Engage in comprehensive stakeholder management across clients, business units, management, technical teams, and service partners.
• Plan and monitor project schedules, milestones, dependencies, progress, and deliverables.
• Ensure structured reporting, documentation, and communication for projects.
• Apply both classical and agile project management techniques appropriate for each context.
• Support governance processes, manage escalations, and prepare decisions.
• Guarantee project goals are met within scheduled timeframes, quality standards, and scope requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• University degree in business administration, business informatics (with IT focus), information technology, or a related field.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including MS Project, Outlook, Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Experience using SharePoint and Jira platforms.
• Comprehensive understanding and hands-on experience in classical and agile project management methodologies.
• Possession of recognized project management certifications such as IPMA Level C, PMI PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, Scrum PSM or PSPO, PMI CAPM, or equivalent with over 8 years of relevant project management experience.
• Minimum 6 years of professional experience managing complex IT projects.
• Well-versed in project planning, controlling, milestone and risk management.
• Experienced in leading internal teams and coordinating with external vendors and service providers.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across technical, managerial, and business audiences.
• Preferably experienced in IT infrastructure projects; experience in regulated, public sector, defense, or security-sensitive settings is advantageous.
• German language proficiency at C1 level per CEFR; proof via certificate, CV, reference, or declaration required unless native.

Special Conditions

• Willingness to travel approximately 20% of working time by car, rental car, train, or public transit.
