Role Overview: Senior Inspector – Quality (Electrical Inspector)

The Senior Inspector - Quality will oversee quality control inspections for electrical installations and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and manufacturer guidelines. This role demands extensive expertise in electrical inspection within oil and gas or petrochemical industries, with a strong emphasis on adherence to IEC standards and safety protocols.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide training on cable glanding and assess personnel qualifications for cable glanding and termination.
  • Review and approve qualifications of cable jointers and terminators.
  • Inspect and test temporary electrical installations and camp facility connections as needed.
  • Examine installation of supports before cable tray setups and inspect cable tray and conduit installations prior to cable laying.
  • Inspect various underground (UG) stub-ups, trenches for dimensions and sand bedding prior to cable laying and during each layer release.
  • Supervise the cable jointing and termination process to ensure manufacturer recommendations are followed.
  • Verify cable segregation arrangements and cable dressing before backfilling.
  • Witness and verify insulation resistance, continuity, Hi-pot, and torquing tests of cables at multiple stages.
  • Inspect installation of cable tray covers and electrical equipment including switch gears, transformers, and MCCs for alignment, location, and preservation.
  • Oversee torquing and testing procedures of bus bars, switchgears, transformers, and bus ducts including oil dielectric and functional tests.
  • Inspect batteries, chargers, UPS systems, and witness their charging/discharging tests if applicable.
  • Monitor installation and testing of earthing systems, lightning protection systems, and related resistance tests.
  • Evaluate installation and testing of lighting fixtures, distribution boards, motors, local control stations, thermite welds, CP systems, heat tracing circuits, diesel generators, HVAC equipment, and overhead power lines.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of certified electrical equipment per IEC 60079-17/14 standards and ensure correct interpretation and maintenance of IP Ratings.
  • Provide training and assessment for tubing/tube fitting installers and inspect instruments per specifications, including calibration of instruments, safety valves, and control valves.
  • Monitor preservation and site installation conditions for instruments, communication systems, and control panels.
  • Supervise cable tray and conduit installations related to communication cables, and witness associated testing such as IR/continuity and fiber optic tests.
  • Oversee inspection and testing of PA/GA circuits, CCTV components, telephone systems, antenna installations, and radio towers.
  • Maintain pest control oversight inside control buildings.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 10 years of experience working as an Electrical QC Inspector.
  • Strong background in the oil & gas or petrochemical sectors.
  • Minimum of three years working experience with major EPC contractors.
  • For hazardous area electrical inspections: Experience and training in types of protection and installation practices in accordance with IEC 60079-17 and IEC 60079-14 are required. Relevant documentation must be provided. Candidates lacking this training should complete in-house PEC-RCD-00384 training prior to undertaking Ex-Inspections.
