About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team. In this position, you will collaborate closely with product, design, and machine learning teams to develop AI-infused solutions for clinical documentation and medical coding. Your work will involve designing, developing, and maintaining backend services, APIs, and tooling that support our SaaS offerings aimed at improving clinical quality and documentation accuracy.
Our AI-driven products correct clinical errors affecting hundreds of thousands of patients and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in measurable value for healthcare systems. These solutions enhance physician documentation quality, assist clinicians in identifying missing diagnoses, convert clinical documentation into medical codes, and help maintain financial integrity in health systems. The tools you build will be critical to thousands of clinicians and hospital staff tackling complex patient care challenges.
Responsibilities
- Develop innovative, state-of-the-art experiences for major healthcare organizations.
- Create and sustain backend services leveraging machine learning to address complex customer challenges.
- Design and maintain shared APIs, services, tools, and applications forming the core platform architecture.
- Contribute creative ideas, share knowledge within the engineering team, and influence architectural decisions.
- Lead and actively participate in design discussions, code reviews, and strategic planning sessions.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, design, and machine learning.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers on the team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software development or machine learning engineering.
- Proficient software engineering skills using Python.
- Track record of contributing to SaaS product development.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with strong attention to detail.
- Hands-on experience building consumer-facing applications integrated with ML pipelines.
- Familiar with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and PostgreSQL.
- Experienced with containerization and orchestration tools including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledgeable about AWS cloud services.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools, especially GitHub Actions.
- Strong understanding of system design fundamentals.
- Experience with healthcare data standards such as FHIR, HL7, and EDI is advantageous.

Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $180,000 and $230,000 annually, plus equity participation. Final compensation will depend on factors such as location, experience, and qualifications.
