Role Overview

An opportunity is available for a qualified School Counsellor to join LICS, starting 1st August 2026. The ideal candidate is committed to supporting children and adolescents with emotional, social, academic, and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide confidential counselling for students and staff, covering personal, social, emotional, and academic topics.
• Utilise solution-based techniques to remove barriers to student well-being and learning.
• Respect confidentiality except where safeguarding protocols require disclosure.
• Refer clients to appropriate external agencies as necessary, ensuring transparency and communication.
• Engage in safeguarding measures and promptly report concerns.
• Stay abreast of best practices in counselling and education for service enhancement.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, administration, and parents to support student needs.
• Track student attendance, identifying and assisting at-risk students and coordinating interventions.
• Address and support mental health and well-being needs, assisting families in resource navigation.
• Apply data-driven analysis to inform support strategies and track outcomes.
• Coordinate with teams to support students with diverse and language needs.
• Lead the Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) programme and evaluate its effectiveness.
• Prepare annual resource requirement proposals and generate regular service reports.
• Maintain professional memberships and participate in relevant training.
• Design and deliver educational workshops for staff, students, and parents.
• Promote student well-being through communications and whole-school initiatives.
• Continuously review and improve the counselling service and personal practice.
• Undertake other related duties as needed within the scope of the position.

Data Management & Protection

• Uphold data confidentiality and security standards (including GDPR and school policies).
• Provide scheduled reports and conduct annual reviews of the counselling service.
• Accurately maintain all records within the school's management information systems.

Community & School Engagement

• Attend staff and team meetings.
• Actively participate in the broader activities and community life of the school.
• Be available for travel or after-hours events as required by the school calendar.
• Cultivate positive relationships with colleagues, students, and parents/carers.
• Consistently follow the institution's policies, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

• Experience working as a counsellor in an educational setting.
• At least three years of counselling children/adolescents.
• Further relevant training in child and adolescent therapy.
• Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Counselling, or equivalent with a postgraduate qualification in Counselling.
• Other relevant qualifications are advantageous.
