Role Overview
The role of AV Safety Manager involves being the primary guardian of safety within Moove's autonomous vehicle operations based in Dubai. The position demands ensuring transparent communication of risks with consistent understanding and swift resolution. This includes establishing and overseeing safety programs aligned with a global safety framework tailored to Dubai's ambitious autonomous mobility environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor critical safety metrics, trends, and unusual events to validate the safety case and advise on necessary operational safeguards or mitigation measures.
- Conduct comprehensive readiness evaluations ensuring fleet operational readiness and site performance alignment.
- Drive proactive maintenance approaches, oversee upgrades, and guarantee strict compliance with safety and regulatory mandates.
- Report safety performance insights and key performance indicators (KPIs) to relevant stakeholders on schedule.
- Lead site safety initiatives such as weekly safety briefings and reporting of safety concerns.
- Address and resolve non-conformities found through audits, reports, or incident examinations.
- Organize regular tabletop exercises with vendors to enhance incident preparedness.
- Customize and implement local safety programs by adapting global frameworks for Dubai operations.
- Manage investigations into safety incidents, near-misses, and anomalies, determine causes, and ensure corrective measures are taken.
- Function as the 24/7 on-call safety authority for immediate response across all Dubai sites.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all safety-related events and investigations in audit-ready format.
- Work closely with the General Manager to develop strategies for fleet safety and health improvement.
- Maintain effective collaboration with third-party vendors and partners to uphold high safety standards.
- Partner with Fleet Operations, Field Operations, Training, and the Global Safety Team to embed comprehensive safety standards organization-wide.
- Foster cross-functional relationships among various departments including operations, security, facilities, and central operations teams.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Between 3 to 7 years of experience in transportation safety, logistics, fleet operations, or related safety domains.
- A bachelor's degree in Safety Science, Safety Risk Management, Logistics, Transportation, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
- Strong understanding of UAE transportation laws, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) regulations, and international safety standards; knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA standards considered a valuable plus.
- Preferred certifications include OSHA 500/501 or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Experience with Kaizen methodologies and continuous improvement processes advantageous.
- Proven skills influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels to nurture a culture prioritizing safety.
- Strong analytical capabilities and proficiency with Google Workspace and spreadsheet-based data management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills suited for dialogues with executives, regulators, and frontline personnel.
- Highly flexible with the ability to promptly manage multiple urgent situations simultaneously in a dynamic and high-pressure environment.
- Self-driven with sound judgment and availability to work across a 24/7 operational schedule.
- Proficiency in English required; Arabic language skills are a significant asset.
