Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Estimator / Project Manager to join a reputable civil construction company delivering commercial projects throughout southern Tasmania. This role requires a dynamic professional skilled in estimating and project execution within a collaborative, fast-paced environment focused on quality workmanship and strong client partnerships.
Role Responsibilities
- Compile precise and competitive estimates, tender bids, and project financial plans for commercial civil construction projects.
- Analyze tender documents and project scopes, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, and develop comprehensive Bills of Quantities for earthworks, concrete, and civil works.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations through RFQs to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare tender summaries and comprehensive handover materials for seamless transition from estimating to project delivery teams.
- Oversee projects from contract award through completion, including procurement, scheduling, budget control, and maintaining clear client communications.
- Coordinate with internal staff, subcontractors, and on-site operations to facilitate safe and efficient project progress.
- Monitor project timelines, manage contract variations, and track financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and sustain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations during all project phases.
Candidate Profile
- At least five years’ experience in estimating and managing projects within civil or commercial construction sectors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of civil construction techniques, tendering processes, project costing, contractual obligations, and operations management.
- Ability to identify scope discrepancies, site challenges, exclusions/inclusions, risks, and value opportunities.
- Proficient in interpreting architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Solid commercial insight with experience managing budgets and financial forecasting.
- Effective organizational abilities and time management skills to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong leadership qualities with capable communication skills across organizational levels.
- Proactive, pragmatic, and solution-oriented approach towards challenges.
- Experienced with estimating and project management software along with Microsoft Office applications.
- Skillful in developing and maintaining pricing models, rate catalogues, and estimating templates enhancing workflow efficiency; adept with document control and construction scheduling tools.
- Familiarity with project workflows, working closely with site personnel, compiling site data, issuing change orders, and ensuring project adherence to plans.
- Thorough understanding of construction industry safety standards.
- Relevant certifications or tertiary qualifications in construction management, civil engineering, project management, or related fields are advantageous.
