Product Designer - Community Experience

About the Role

Gaia is a subscription streaming service dedicated to enhancing consciousness evolution, offering a library exceeding 8,000 original programs, documentaries, and films centered on yoga, spirituality, wellness, and esoteric topics. We are looking for an experienced Product Designer to develop community features that foster deep connections among members and between content and practices. This position involves designing various social and interactive components such as discussion forums, groups, live events, and peer-to-peer engagement tools.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a balance of excellent visual design skills, systems thinking, empathy for users, and hands-on execution capabilities. Collaboration across teams and strategic thinking are essential in delivering thoughtful user experiences within a dynamic and evolving product space. While community features are a primary focus, contributing to overall Gaia platform experiences to maintain coherence for members is also required.

Soft skills play a critical role here; strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, prioritization, problem-solving abilities, empathy in conflict resolution, and adaptability to change are crucial. The role requires working onsite at Gaia's campus in Louisville, Colorado. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or possess valid work visas. Gaia subscribers are preferred, and a non-smoking policy applies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design comprehensive community and social features for both web and mobile platforms.
• Develop user flows, interaction patterns, and information architectures that encourage engagement and foster belonging.
• Help maintain and evolve Gaia’s design system and visual aesthetics.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and other cross-functional teams.
• Conduct user research, usability tests, and competitor analyses to guide design choices.
• Leverage analytics and user feedback to iterate and enhance community experiences.
• Produce clean, production-ready files using Figma and work collaboratively with developers during implementation.
• Balance user expectations, business objectives, and technical limitations in a fast-paced environment.

Candidate Qualifications

• Five or more years’ experience in product design, ideally within growth-oriented B2C companies.
• Proven expertise designing social, community, or engagement-centric digital experiences.
• Strong knowledge of information architecture and interaction design principles.
• Experience creating responsive designs for web and mobile applications.
• Proficiency with Figma and component-driven design systems.
• Ability to utilize AI tools to support research, ideation, prototyping, and streamline workflows.
• Solid visual design skills, including typography, layout, accessibility standards, and visual hierarchy.
• Experience conducting and applying user research and data-driven design methods.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills across various disciplines.
• Comfortable working autonomously in ambiguous or early-stage product settings.
• Basic understanding of frontend development constraints and integration workflows.
• Availability to work onsite in Louisville, Colorado.

Additional Information

This is a contract-to-hire position offering hourly compensation ranging from $70 to $90 USD. Gaia is a publicly traded company headquartered in Louisville, Colorado, with global reach.
