Job Overview
Amazon's Worldwide Operations network fulfills millions of customer orders daily, and we are seeking energetic, customer-centric individuals to join as Operations Managers. This leadership role involves guiding both salaried and hourly staff, fostering high standards in safety, quality, attendance, and productivity throughout shifts. Managers provide essential resources for team success while promoting continuous improvements utilizing data-driven insights and problem-solving techniques.
Operations Workflow
The operations process encompasses three major stages: First mile - storing products ready for orders; Middle mile - transporting orders to regional areas; and Last mile - delivering the product to customers. Although facility layouts vary, the commitment to exceptional customer experience remains consistent.
Responsibilities
- Guide, encourage, and support a diverse workforce of salaried and hourly employees
- Manage extensive projects affecting site and regional operations
- Develop and implement productivity strategies using forecast analysis and collaborate with leadership to balance workloads
- Oversee safety practices, product quality, efficiency, and fulfillment commitments
- Work closely with departments including Safety, Engineering, Loss Prevention, Quality Assurance, and Human Resources to align business goals
- Physically manage tasks involving lifting up to 49 pounds, frequent bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, and reaching
- Maintain stamina to stand or walk for up to 12 hours per shift
- Adapt to working in environments with varying noise levels and temperatures, including outdoor loading zones
- Regularly ascend and descend stairs where applicable
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years in employee and performance management roles
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; or 2 years of Amazon full-time employee experience
- Flexibility to work various schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Skills and Experience
- At least 1 year experience in performance metrics, process enhancement or lean methodologies
- Proven ability to manage teams with 2+ salaried and over 70 indirect employees
- Experience in leading process improvements using Lean, Kaizen, or Six Sigma methods
- Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
- Consistent record of achieving or surpassing performance targets
- Degrees in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or related disciplines are highly valued
- Relevant industry background such as military, manufacturing, automotive, biotech, electronics, energy, aerospace, medical, cosmetics, production or distribution
Physical and Work Environment
This role involves physical activities including lifting, standing for prolonged periods, exposure to loud noises, temperature variations, and stair climbing in certain facilities.
