Role Overview

The Obsolescence Manager will ensure long-term system availability and reliability throughout the lifespan of our products. This involves identifying and monitoring risks of obsolescence in hardware and software components, and then creating strategies to prevent or mitigate these risks. Collaboration with engineering, procurement, and service teams is essential for maintaining system supportability and mission readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Detect and evaluate obsolescence risks in hardware and software throughout full product lifecycles to minimize unexpected redesigns.
• Create and execute prevention and mitigation plans, including monitoring suppliers and components to sustain system availability.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and service departments to assure ongoing supportability of deployed systems.
• Perform active market surveillance abiding by the Market Surveillance Act (Marktüberwachungsgesetz) to inform sourcing and compliance.
• Utilize obsolescence management databases (OM-DBs) for forecasting risks and supporting lifecycle planning.

Candidate Profile

• Experience using obsolescence management databases to monitor and forecast component risks.
• Ability to assess and manage software obsolescence in complex systems.
• Knowledge and application of the Market Surveillance Act for market monitoring.
• Strong coordination skills across various teams to ensure long-term system availability.
• Capability to translate lifecycle risks into clear, actionable prevention and mitigation tactics.
• Fluent communication skills in both English and German (C1 level or equivalent) to work across international teams and align with local regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with obsolescence management in defence or aerospace industries.
• Understanding of component lifecycle forecasting and strategies for managing end-of-life products.
