Overview
Vertiv is looking for a skilled NPDI Sourcing Engineer to be part of their Global Procurement Team. The individual will lead sourcing and purchase activities for designated product lines during the New Product Development and Introduction lifecycle. This role acts as the key procurement liaison among Engineering, Commodity Management, Suppliers, and Manufacturing to guarantee effective product launches, supply chain preparedness, competitive costs, and punctual delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all procurement and sourcing tasks through the NPI lifecycle, from initial concepts and prototypes to pilot builds and full-scale production.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Commodity Management, Operations, and Suppliers to ensure smooth product launches.
- Source components primarily from preferred vendors while meeting cost, quality, lead-time, and supply continuity standards.
- Ensure supplier preparedness and material availability to align with development milestones and production plans.
- Support strategies for prototype sourcing and coordinate fast delivery of prototype materials with Engineering and Purchasing teams.
- Examine supplier quotes, tooling needs, and manufacturing proposals, offering recommendations considering cost, quality, and risk factors.
- Identify and apply cost-saving measures including e-Auctions, value engineering, and supplier negotiations.
- Maintain accurate purchase BOM cost reporting and track cost deviations versus target pricing.
- Coordinate with regional and global procurement to manage supply chain risks and assist production transfer activities.
- Conduct sourcing reviews on critical projects and ensure timely completion of mitigation steps.
- Lead or join NPD/NPI review meetings and support required procurement deliverables for stage-gate evaluations.
- Track procurement KPIs diligently and initiate corrective efforts to meet performance objectives.
- Support assessments of supplier risks and resilience to uphold supply continuity and business readiness.
- Manage launch and ramp-up coordination with EMS and manufacturing partners to achieve project timelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial), Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years’ experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing, or similar fields.
- Demonstrated involvement in New Product Introduction programs in manufacturing or technology sectors is preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of supply chain, sourcing, and procurement processes within manufacturing environments.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and BOMs.
- Experience handling multiple projects concurrently in cross-functional, matrixed organizations.
- Knowledgeable about product industrialization, supplier development, and production launch methodologies.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Ability to build strong supplier partnerships and influence diverse global teams.
- Familiarity with ERP and PLM software and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work collaboratively across global time zones as necessary.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and change management.
Additional Qualifications
- Preferred certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) and CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management).
- Expected travel approximately 15% of the time.
