Role Overview
The Skoll Foundation seeks a Managing Director, Community based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid schedule requiring onsite presence Tuesdays through Thursdays. This position leads the vision, strategy, and overall management of how the Foundation interacts with its Awardees and grantee community throughout the year.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and direct the Foundation’s comprehensive community engagement strategy, fostering meaningful connections among social entrepreneurs through both digital and face-to-face initiatives.
- Lead the design and execution of the annual Community Convening at the Skoll World Forum in Oxford, ensuring the agenda, content, and participant experience align with community needs and aspirations.
- Oversee communication efforts including newsletters, updates, and responses to community inquiries, maintaining steady and clear contact channels.
- Manage a grants portfolio and devise new programmatic and funding innovations to support Skoll partners effectively.
- Represent community interests across the Foundation, integrating insights into organizational strategy and investment decisions.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a small community team, promoting collaborative and adaptive work culture.
- Design systems and metrics for evaluating the impact and effectiveness of community engagement efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with at least 10 years in community building, program management, or related roles within social entrepreneurship, philanthropy, or international development sectors.
- Proven record in developing and implementing large-scale community engagement strategies including digital and in-person components.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills tailored to a global, senior-level audience.
- Experience managing teams with strong leadership and ability to handle ambiguity.
- Proficiency with Salesforce, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and project management platforms like Asana or Microsoft Teams.
- Willingness to travel internationally for extended stays, especially to the Skoll World Forum in Oxford.
- Availability to work onsite in Washington, DC three days a week.

Benefits and Salary
- Comprehensive benefits including 10% discretionary employer retirement contribution, flexible time off, paid holidays, and medical, dental, vision insurance.
- Salary range between $175,500 and $280,800 USD annually, typically starting between $175,500 and $236,000 based on experience and expertise.
