About the County of Lambton
The County of Lambton, located in Southwestern Ontario along Lake Huron and the St. Clair River, borders the state of Michigan and serves a diverse population of around 128,000 residents. With approximately 1,300 employees, it is one of the largest employers in the region, operating through seven divisions that provide various public services including emergency medical services, courts, long-term care homes, libraries, museums, art galleries, and public health services. Role Overview
This full-time position entails maintaining facilities for Lambton Public Health, Lambton Shared Services Centre, and Wyoming Administration, involving diverse building and grounds maintenance tasks alongside facility budgeting and contractor coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints and perform equipment repairs, lighting installation, and plumbing fixture maintenance.
- Maintain HVAC systems including thermostat calibration, filter replacement, and belt servicing.
- Organize regular maintenance with contractors and manage routine upkeep of lighting, exhaust systems, and appliances.
- Construct or repair shelves, furniture, and drywall as needed.
- Support supervisor with capital and annual facility budget planning and manage contractor communications and project coordination.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings, emergency equipment, grounds, and properties to identify hazards and maintenance needs.
- Manage purchasing of large equipment, supplies, inventory control, and delivery logistics.
- Oversee grounds maintenance activities such as snow and ice removal, garbage disposal, and parking area upkeep.
- Respond to building-related emergencies 24/7 and serve as backup contact for building security.
- Maintain records related to buildings and interpret applicable codes and legislation.
- Assist in creation and maintenance of facility manuals and support offsite storage and satellite coordination.
- Remain current with legislation, policies, and collective agreements applicable to the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of Grade 12 education is required.
- A three-year college diploma in Project & Facility Management, Building Construction/Maintenance, or related field is mandatory.
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in facility maintenance is necessary.
- WHMIS training must be completed.
- A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.
Work Details
- 40 working hours per week.
- Wage range: $28.61 to $34.35 per hour.
- Position involves on-call responsibilities for emergencies.
