Logistics Officer

Overview

This role involves managing comprehensive logistics responsibilities, including precise customs declarations, monitoring shipment progress from origin to central warehouse, maintaining meticulous records, and ensuring strict adherence to customs regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and organized records of all logistics documentation.
• Verify accuracy of customs declarations by confirming appropriate HS Codes and CP codes before authorizing tax worksheets.
• Submit customs documentation promptly to clearing agents.
• Coordinate customs verification processes.
• Ensure full compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) standard operating procedures and customs regulations.
• Expedite the movement of shipments until delivery to the designated warehouse or destination.
• Prepare weekly reports detailing shipment status.
• Oversee the tax clearance process, providing necessary information for customs exit procedures.
• Keep the tax schedule updated regularly.
• Document all stock movements from receipt at the warehouse to dispatch, including partner details and obtain confirmations of receipt.
• Record inbound shipments in the Navision system and document receipt appropriately.
• Manage payments and prompt refunds with logistics service providers, including container guarantee reimbursements.
• Coordinate container releases from Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and supervise delivery of empty containers to specified empty container depots as per shipping line instructions.
• Provide support in customs-related engagements and issues.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• At least three years of proven experience as a logistics officer or in a similar role.
• Familiarity with logistics management systems and established procedures.
• Strong organizational aptitude and ability to manage time efficiently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate across teams.
• Capable of working effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Physical ability to lift heavy objects and operate warehouse machinery safely.
