Overview

Join the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the USDA as a Logistics Management Specialist, based in Fort Collins, CO. In this role, you will be central to ensuring the availability and readiness of essential veterinary supplies, including personal protective equipment, vaccines, antivirals, pharmaceuticals, and equipment for States, Tribes, and Territories to respond effectively to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

As a part of the Veterinary Services Field Operation Logistics Center and National Veterinary Stockpile (NVS), your tasks will involve responding to technical assistance requests from various agencies and emergency responders, providing expert advice on logistics management planning and operations, troubleshooting complex logistical challenges, and collaborating closely with vendors, manufacturers, and contracting officers to negotiate purchasing and oversee storage activities. You will contribute to developing best practices for inventory control, reconciliation, and financial reporting, as well as supporting States, Tribes, and Territories in planning, training, and exercising rapid distribution of supplies during emergency events.

Qualifications

Applicants must satisfy all qualification and eligibility standards by the announcement's closing date. For the GS-13 level, candidates need at least one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12. This should include:

• Planning and coordinating activities related to acquisition, storage, maintenance, transport, and deployment of critical assets during emergencies like natural disasters or terrorism.
• Developing and implementing contingency, action, and safety plans to ensure effective emergency response.
• Exercising sound judgment and rapid decision-making during high-stakes emergency situations.
• Adaptation or initiation of emergency preparedness protocols.
• Managing cooperative agreements or contracts focusing on procurement, storage, and transportation challenges.

Experience can include paid, unpaid, or volunteer work through national service or community organizations, which contributes toward desired competencies.

• Salary Range: $106,437 to $142,022 annually
• Employees may be required to participate in temporary duty assignments supporting emergency programs across the Agency.
