Role Summary
This dynamic position supports sales distribution targeting Eastern Canada and American regions. The Logistics Coordinator oversees booking and tracking lumber shipments from mills and reload facilities to customers, maintaining meticulous transportation and order documentation, while nurturing relationships with carriers and clients. Ideal candidates will bring demonstrated logistics coordination experience and a capacity to integrate quickly and grow within the team.
Key Duties
- Work cooperatively with internal teams ensuring strategic cohesion, clear communication, and timely operations.
- Coordinate with management to prioritize loads and arrange truck bookings that balance urgency, cost, and vehicle size among preferred carrier partners.
- Function as the main communication hub connecting sales, mills, reload centers, and carriers to guarantee timely shipment deliveries.
- Manage urgent and time-critical shipments by rescheduling and proactively informing sales, reloads, and transport partners.
- Negotiate freight pricing and sustain carrier relationships across freight modes including FTL, LTL, intermodal, and expedited "hot shot" services.
- Advise on consolidation strategies for orders including multi-drop and less-than-truckload shipments to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
- Perform market studies, communicate insights, and suggest actionable strategies.
- Provide freight cost estimates and transportation lane recommendations to sales, highlighting alternative shipping methods.
- Ensure proper documentation and regulatory compliance for cross-border shipments.
- Identify and onboard new transportation vendors through thorough evaluation and performance reviews.
- Track shipment progress and deliver updates, serving as escalation contact for carrier performance issues.
- Maintain accurate logistics documentation including schedules, rate records, booking confirmations, and bills of lading; support administrative precision within logistics processes.
- Engage in cross-training initiatives, share knowledge, and promote process enhancements.
Candidate Profile
- Between 2 to 5 years of logistics, transportation, or supply chain coordination experience; background in lumber or building materials fields is advantageous.
- Familiarity with truck classifications, sizing, and shipment modalities like FTL and LTL is favorable.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and aptitude for managing concurrent priorities in a fast-paced work setting.
- Effective communicator with proactive demeanor, skilled in internal and external multi-channel dialogue to foster teamwork and maintain relationships.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities, adept at evaluating issues and implementing solutions.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word); knowledge of ERP or transportation management systems is a plus.
- Post-secondary education or diploma in supply chain, logistics, or business administration is preferred; logistics certifications such as CITT add value.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is considered beneficial.
