Learning Experience Design Manager

Overview

The University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning seeks a Learning Experience Design Manager to lead and develop the Learning Experience Design (LXD) team. The Center's mission focuses on enhancing teaching quality, early childhood education, and foundational academic proficiency through research-based educational innovations for learners of all ages. The Center is committed to creating equitable learning trajectories by targeting kindergarten readiness, 3rd grade reading, and algebra skills, integrating research, practice, and policy within a high-impact, entrepreneurial environment.

Team Leadership and Development

• Oversee and mentor LXD team members, guiding design standards, communication, and collaboration expectations.
• Facilitate onboarding, continuous training, and performance management, including feedback, goal-setting, and career progression.
• Assist team members with workload management, prioritization, and complex project navigation.
• Lead regular meetings, design reviews, and project status check-ins.
• Identify skill gaps within the team and provide targeted coaching and resources.

Instructional Design Management

• Provide daily leadership in designing and developing online educational programs across the Center.
• Support designers in aligning courses with program objectives, learner needs, and content expertise.
• Advise on instructional decisions related to content structure, media usage, assessments, and learner engagement.
• Review design artifacts including course maps, prototypes, storyboards, and assessments, ensuring adherence to established standards.
• Develop course elements directly as needed by project demands or team capacity.

Course Development Coordination

• Manage the lifecycle of course development to meet production deadlines.
• Coordinate design efforts with project teams including media, technology, and management.
• Collaborate closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders to clarify instructional choices and processes.
• Proactively identify and address bottlenecks, escalating issues appropriately.

Quality Assurance and Accessibility

• Ensure instructional materials align with quality, coherence, and usability standards of the Center.
• Integrate accessibility requirements throughout design phases complying with ADA/WCAG guidelines.
• Lead reviews focusing on instructional quality and accessibility benchmarks.
• Utilize feedback and reviews to continuously refine courses and design practices.

• Salary Range: $95,000 to $110,000 annually

Qualifications and Preferences

• Master’s degree and minimum four years of relevant experience; or bachelor’s degree with six years of relevant experience.
• Preferred degrees include Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Learning Sciences, or related fields.
• Minimum five years' professional experience in instructional design or related educational technology roles.
• Proven management experience overseeing instructional design teams.
• Expertise in applying accessibility and universal design principles in online learning.
• Familiarity with learning management systems like D2L Brightspace or Canvas.
• Proficiency with Articulate 360 tools including Rise and Storyline for content development.
• Strong skills in writing, editing, organization, facilitation, and stakeholder communication.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and make informed decisions collaboratively.
• Experience designing adult professional learning programs, particularly in education contexts.
• Background in higher education, nonprofit, research-based education initiatives, or grant-funded projects.
• Experience responsibly leveraging generative AI and emerging tech to enhance course design, content, assessment, and accessibility.
