Learning Designer

Overview

Situated within the Provost portfolio, the Online Strategy Unit (OSU) spearheads the planning and execution of a forward-looking approach to online education at Griffith University. The unit focuses on expanding and enhancing the university's offerings in online learning through collaboration with academic groups, promoting innovative, high-quality, technology-driven, and student-oriented learning models.

As a Learning Designer reporting to the Senior Learning Designer, the role is pivotal in crafting fully online degree programs. This position involves partnering with university staff and students to build engaging, student-focused digital resources and learning experiences.

Key Duties

• Collaborate as an integral part of the OSU team to deliver premium fully online courses aligned with design protocols and resource needs.
• Work closely with academics, students, and stakeholders to create, implement, and appraise dynamic, authentic, and cooperative online learning experiences.
• Apply modern pedagogical strategies—including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), student partnership, and social learning—within course and program designs adhering to constructive alignment principles.
• Co-design diagnostic and evaluative assessments that nurture genuine, transferable skills to enhance graduate employability.
• Provide advisory support during the design, development, delivery, and evaluation stages of courses and resources to align with university objectives and standards.
• Review and adjust current teaching materials for accessibility, versatility, and new curriculum demands.
• Use advanced and emerging educational technologies to develop solutions within OSU design frameworks, facilitating skill growth for both students and academics.
• Integrate university-wide services and digital resources within courses to enrich student learning.
• Manage learning design projects efficiently by overseeing stakeholder communications, project scoping, resource estimation, documentation, budgeting, and simultaneous multiple project delivery.
• Develop and conduct professional learning initiatives for faculty and staff to boost institutional capabilities toward strategic targets.
• Maintain compliance with relevant legislation and university policies, especially concerning equity, safety, and well-being.
• Perform additional related duties in line with role expectations to support overall unit goals.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A postgraduate qualification in Instructional Design, Teaching, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience focused on learning and teaching.
• Unrestricted work rights in Australia.
• Potential requirement to undergo a National criminal history check.

Employment Terms and Conditions

This role is fixed-term until February 2027 based at the Logan campus, with potential for duties across other campuses. Salary range is at HEW 8 level, with a base gross annual salary between $117,579 and $132,273 plus 17% superannuation, totaling $137,567 to $154,759 as a full package.
