Job description

About the Role

The Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking a diligent and motivated Labourer for Open Spaces and Cemeteries. This permanent, full-time position based in Cannonvale supports the construction, development, and upkeep of open spaces and cemeteries throughout the Whitsunday area, which includes the Great Barrier Reef's tropical islands and coastal towns.

The region offers an engaging environment to live and work with picturesque surroundings and community focus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general labour tasks such as managing vegetation, conducting maintenance, litter collection, and other park and garden duties.
  • Safely operate small machinery and equipment following all applicable laws and safety guidelines.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors and other council members to complete assignments effectively.
  • Execute traffic management duties, including implementing control schemes and complying with current regulations.
  • Maintain council vehicles, machinery, and tools to meet safety and operational standards.
  • Complete and submit daily timesheets, pre-start safety checks, and maintain accurate operation records.
  • Report any operational, safety, or welfare concerns promptly to management.
  • Provide flexibility to work across multiple locations within the regional area as needed.

Essential Qualifications and Certifications

  • MR Manual Driver's Licence or willingness to obtain one.
  • General Construction Safety Induction (White Card).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Traffic Control certification or willingness to acquire.
  • Certificate to operate Chainsaw and Pole saw or willingness to obtain.
  • Agriculture Chemical Distribution and Control (ACDC) certification.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Certificate II or III in Horticulture is preferred.
