The firm is led by a Principal Designer with over 30 years of experience and offers end-to-end design services such as space planning, renovations, new-build interiors, custom furnishings, project coordination, and installation. Its design approach combines practicality, refinement, and personalization to build timeless spaces that feel true to each client’s lifestyle and vision.
Role overview
IBD is looking for an experienced Interior Designer who enjoys working in a fast-moving, team-oriented setting and is committed to delivering excellent client experiences from early concept development through final installation. The selected candidate will partner with the Principal Designer, Associate Designer, Project Managers, and the broader creative team across all project stages. This role calls for strong organization, attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to juggle several priorities while upholding a high design standard. The ideal professional brings solid technical capabilities, excellent communication, and a polished design sensibility with luxury residential and commercial experience.
Project design and documentation
- Create and develop design drawings and documentation, including furniture layouts, elevations, lighting plans, custom furniture drawings, and finish schedules/specifications.
- Build and keep up-to-date project files such as room concepts, design schemes, presentation boards, budget trackers with high/low options, schedules, and milestone timelines.
- Prepare project specifications and documents needed for installation.
- Compile final punch lists and project closeout records.
Client and project coordination
- Communicate with clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, building management, and other project stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
- Support project meetings by setting agendas, recording notes, and sharing meeting summaries.
- Assist with client-facing presentations and design review sessions.
- Join clients for showroom appointments and product selection support when required.
Procurement and installation
- Source, specify, and purchase furnishings, lighting, window treatments, fabrics, wall coverings, flooring, decorative finishes, artwork, and accessories.
- Create and manage purchase orders and client billing.
- Monitor order status and accelerate deliveries so deadlines are met.
- Coordinate incoming deliveries, inspect items on arrival, and address quality issues where necessary.
- Help plan and supervise installation work to ensure a smooth finish to the project.
Material and vendor management
- Research products that align with project objectives and budget parameters.
- Organize and maintain finish libraries, samples, and vendor reference materials.
- Develop and sustain strong working relationships with vendors and industry partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a related field, or equivalent related certifications/experience, is a plus.
- At least 5 years of professional interior design experience, including in-field experience.
- A strong portfolio showcasing residential, commercial, or multifamily projects.
- Advanced AutoCAD skills with 5+ years of experience.
- Working knowledge of Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience preparing construction drawings, specifications, and design presentations.
- Good understanding of interior design principles, materials, finishes, furnishings, and industry standards.
- Strong skills in organization, time management, and project coordination.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Must be available to work in the office Monday through Friday and attend site visits, vendor meetings, client meetings, and installations as needed.
- A portfolio of sample work must be submitted with the application.
Preferred experience
- Exposure to Houzz Pro and QuickBooks.
- Experience in a startup-style office environment.
- Background in luxury residential or high-end hospitality projects.
- Familiarity with procurement and project installation workflows.
What the company is looking for
- A highly organized and detail-focused professional.
- Someone dependable, self-driven, and client-oriented.
- A creative designer with a strong sense of style.
- A candidate who can manage several projects at the same time.
- A collaborative, solution-minded team player.
- Someone passionate about great design and outstanding service.
